Welcome to Pots at the Pictures, a ridiculously fun collaboration between The Paint Box and Parkway Cinema Cleethorpes, the ultimate girls’ night out that even Cher Horowitz would make a cameo at!
If you’ve ever wished you could merge your love of pottery painting with your obsession for chick flicks, this monthly event is perfect for you. Think creativity, next-level snacking, and feel-good films.
How It All Started
I’ve always adored the cinema, especially a good old chick-flick or rom-com. I’ve looked into playing films here in the studio, but it didn’t quite feel cinematic enough.
So with the confidence of Regina George, I pitched the idea to the cinema, and after a lovely tour of their new Luxe Screens from the Manager, Andrew Cooper the collab was born.
Now, on the first Thursday of every month, doors open at 6:30pm, with paints and pottery, set up ready to settle in for a 7pm showing.
The Vibe (Spoiler: It’s the “Epitome of Girls’ Night”)
Between the relaxed atmosphere, feel-good movies, and top-tier snacking, it’s no wonder one guest called it the epitome of girls’ night on Instagram.
These evenings draw friend groups, mums and daughters, and the brilliant women from Girls Get Out Grimsby , who are always supporting local business collaborations.
We set up the front row of the Heritage Suite with mess-friendly table in front of your seat, and add freestanding tables a little further back. The lights stay up during the movie, so you can paint, snack, sip, giggle, and enjoy the film.
What You Get to Paint
We bring a wide selection of pottery:
- Plates, mugs, bowls
- Trinket boxes (a runaway hit!)
- Seasonal pieces
- And themed items if they match the movie
You can paint something inspired by the film, pink for Mean Girls, 90s patterns for Clueless, or aca-awesome motifs from Pitch Perfect, or design anything your heart desires. No pressure, no rules, just pure creative escapism.
The Movies (So Far)
We kicked things off with the musical joy of Pitch Perfect, to follow soon with the totally fetch chaos of Mean Girls (4th June), which sold out so quickly we had to add more seats. And then, of course, the iconic, 90’s, masterpiece that is Clueless (2nd July)
We’ve got more movies coming (we’re sworn to secrecy for now), but we have put in a special request for some musicals… including the powerhouse SIX. Fingers crossed!
And if we ever get the chance to screen Empire Records, my all-time favourite and cult classic, I’ll be first in line shouting “Damn the man, save the empire!”
Why I Love It
For Chloe and I, these monthly nights are pure joy. We get to share our love of pottery, painting, and films with people who genuinely love the experience. We literally get to watch our favourite movies while working, which feels like cheating but is absolutely brilliant!
